Disney is yet to announce the sequel to “TRON: Legacy,” the third film in the “Tron” franchise, but that doesn’t mean that it’s been shelved. If anything, progress on it has been steady, with Olivia Wilde now confirmed to reprise her role as Quorra.

Wilde will return for the sequel, together with leading man Garrett Hedlund and director Joseph Kosinski, The Hollywood Reporter says. Production is believed to begin in October this year, for a yet-to-be-specified release date.

As for the direction in which the sequel might go, your guess is as good as anybody else’s. “Legacy” came out in December 2010 and for many months after that, everyone involved on it couldn’t stop talking about a possible sequel.

They most frequently dropped hints about how a third film would bring the characters out into the new world, including Quorra, who is nothing but an algorithm. She may be tough, agile and hot, but she’s not “real.”

“They have to deal with Quorra,” Wilde said a while back. “I loved the collaborative effort that was ‘TRON,’ and I think that now with the time to really focus on character development, after we’ve established so much exposition, we could really have some fun. I think everyone’s game for it - there’s so many directions we could go.”

At the same time, Kosinski said that clues for the sequel were included in the final 5 minutes of “Legacy.”
