It took Olive Telecom less than ten days to cut the price of its low-budget Olive Fluid Android smartphone, which was launched last week in India.

Initially (over)priced at $235, the device is now considered to be 'on sale', as it can now be purchased for Rs. 7,550 (about $170).

However, given the fact that Indian customers have much better choices for Android smartphones, the Olive Fluid continues to be expensive even with the new price drop.

Specs-wise the Olive Fluid's features are sub-standard in comparison with an entry-level Android smartphone.

Powered by an STE6715 468MHz processor, the device runs Android 2.1 Eclair, both of which can be considered obsolete by today's standards.

As we all know, even the cheapest Android smartphone embeds at least a 600 MHz processor and feature a newer platform.

Still, some of the traits of the Olive Fluid may prove to be attractive for some of the handset manufacturer's fans, such as the 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen that supports 320 x 480 pixels resolutions.

The Olive Fluid measures 109 x52 x14.8mm and weighs 117g (battery included).

Other interesting features of the smartphone include support for HSDPA (7.2 Mbps), 256 MB of internal memory, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB), 3-megpapixel camera, as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

The phone is powered by a standard 1300 mAh Li-Ion battery that should provide up to 4 hours of talk time or up to 192 hours of standby time.

It is worth mentioning that Olive Telecom has entered into a joint venture with the Haier Group a few years ago to form Haier Telecom India, which has become the second preferred brand in India.

Unfortunately, while Haier is now one of the country's renowned names in mobile technology, Olive Telecom is still struggling to reach its goals.
