Olga Kurylenko, 33-year-old Ukrainian beauty, has just landed lead role in upcoming horror movie “Mara.” Olga is going to play the role of a criminal psychologist under the name of Kate Fuller, who deals with an unusual murder case.

The story revolves around a supernatural entity, a demon that causes a phenomenon similar to sleep paralysis. Kate is sent to investigate the murder of a man who seemed to have been strangled in his sleep by his wife. The only witness to the crime is the couple's 8-year-old daughter.

Troubled by the details of the murder, Olga's character starts looking for similar cases and discovers the story of an ancient demon who kills people in their sleep. As she digs deeper, Kate begins to experience the same symptoms as the previous victims and starts a series of desperate actions in order to save herself before falling asleep again.

"Mara" is based both on mythology and true phenomena. Sudden Unexpected Nocturnal Death Syndrome, commonly referred to as sleep paralysis, is presented in the shape of a demon in the movie's storyline.

The movie is produced by Myles Nestel from The Solution Entertainment Group and Steven Schneider, producer of the well-known movies “Paranormal Activity” and “Insidious.” Joining the two will be Scott Mann from Mann Made Films, film producer James Edward Barker and UK music video director Clive Tonge.

"Synchronicity and Mann Made Films are the perfect combination for 'Mara' – innovative, vigorous and exciting companies in the independent sector. Clive is a phenomenal talent and horror fans will embrace him as widely as they did James Wan and, with Olga starring, we're onto another hit franchise," Steven Schneider tells Coming Soon.

An official release date for the movie hasn't been announced yet, but the producers estimate “Mara” will be on the big screens sometime in 2014.
