Another US government website targeted by hackers

The official website of Franklin County, Ohio (franklincountyohio.gov), has been breached and defaced by a hacker that uses the online moniker “/NullRoot.”

According to HackRead, the hacker hasn’t defaced the website’s homepage. Instead, he has added the defacement page to franklincountyohio.gov/cfide/deface.html.

Since /NullRoot hasn’t mentioned any reason for attacking the government website, it’s likely that he simply did it to show off his skills.

The only message posted on the defacement page reads, “Greetings to everyone in /Nullroot. We are coming back. #2013.”

The attack took place on Sunday. However, at the time of writing, the defacement page is still present.

I’ve reached out to the website’s webmaster to warn him of the attack. It’s likely that Franklin County is not aware of the breach.

I’ll update this post in case more information becomes available.
