The advent of the public Beta Build of Office 2010, along with the Cloud-version of the productivity suite, namely the Office Web Apps, in 2009 was accompanied by the release of the testing development milestone of Office Mobile 2010 Beta. The mobile flavor of Office 2010 had a much shorter lifespan compared with the client version, and already expired at the start of this week. But while Office Mobile 2010 Beta expired on April 5, users of Office 2010 can continue running the productivity suite until October 2010.

As far as the expiration deadline for Office Mobile 2010 Beta goes, it was mentioned in the product terms of use, however, it appears that some users have missed it. “If you installed Office Mobile 2010 Beta on your Windows Mobile 6.5 device, then this does impact you. As of April 5th, you are unable to launch the Office Mobile applications on your phone,” a member of the Office team revealed.

Microsoft recommends that users uninstall Office Mobile 2010 Beta from their mobile devices, as the suite is now useless. Removing the Beta will not delete or modify in any way the documents stored on mobile phones or on Office SharePoint Server. Users will be able to access the final version of Office Mobile 2010 alongside the RTM version of Office 2010 in June 2010.

“If your phone came with Office Mobile 6.1 pre-installed (the previous version), then uninstalling Office Mobile 2010 Beta from your phone should resolve the issue as it will revert your phone to the older version of Office Mobile. If your phone did not come with Office Mobile 6.1 pre-installed, then you will first need to uninstall Office Mobile 2010 Beta and then re-install the older version of Office Mobile. For the small number of Windows phones that did not have Office Mobile 6.1 preinstalled, it is available for purchase,” the Office team representative added.
