Concomitantly with the release of the second service pack for Office 2008 for Mac, Microsoft has tweaked Office Live Workspace, the company's online document storing and sharing service adjacent to the Office System client components, in order to play nice with the latest releases of Apple's browser. In this context, Office Live Workspace, which continues to be in Beta stage, now allows users running Safari 4 for example to upload Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents in the Cloud and share them, as well as enjoy collaboration capabilities and anywhere access.

According to Microsoft, “You only need an Internet connection, a Web browser, and a Windows Live ID with a valid email inbox. Office Live Workspace works with the most commonly used browsers, including: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, 7, and 8 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Vista. Mozilla Firefox on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Vista, or Mac OS X 10.2.x and later. Safari 3 and 4 on Mac OS X 10.2.x and later.”

On July 20, 2009, Microsoft made available for download Office 2008 for Mac Service Pack 2 or Mac Office 12.2.0, serving the bits both on Mactopia and via Auto Update. An integral part of the update is streamlining the collaboration features of Office 2008 for Mac with the Microsoft Document Connection for Mac.

“It’s been a real pleasure watching Document Connection come together, and it’s been an even greater pleasure adding Document Connection to my daily workflows. Office 2008 SP2 with Document Connection makes it a breeze to find, review, and edit documents from the places I use most, and improved Safari support from the SharePoint and Office Live teams mean it’s never been a better time to be productive on your Mac,” revealed Blair Neumann, program manager on PowerPoint for Macintosh at Microsoft.
