An updated version of the Office 2010 Resource Kit was made available by Microsoft earlier this month.

IT professionals familiar with the resource already know that the download is offered free of charge with additional resources designed to streamline the adoption of Office 2010.

Released in mid-2010, Office 2010 has grown to become the fastest selling Microsoft productivity suite released to date, mirroring the success of Windows 7.

According to statistics released by the software giant, a copy of Office 2010 is sold every second worldwide.

IT professionals in organization looking to upgrade to the successor of Office 2007 can also grab the “Planning guide for Microsoft Office 2010” from the Microsoft Download Center.

“Are you an expert on all facets of deploying Office 2010? If so, you’re a rare bird. If you are like the rest of us, you are probably looking for help. The Office Resource Kit (ORK) is an invaluable resource for planning and deploying this product,” revealed Microsoft Evangelist Keith Combs.

The Office 2010 Resource Kit is set up to simplify the planning of an Office 2010 deployment, the Redmond company explains.

There are a variety of topics covered in the whitepaper, including on topics such as virtualization and Remote Desktop Services, which IT admins are bound to find useful.

ORK “has four major sections described as follows:

1. An overview of the Setup architecture for Office 2010, setup sequence of events, language-neutral design and deployment of multiple languages, customization methods, required local installation source, and updates process.

2. Information about how to plan the installation of the Microsoft Office 2010 suites, and how to migrate the user data, such as user and computers settings and documents created from the previously installed versions of Microsoft Office.

3. Guidelines about items to consider before you deploy Office 2010.

4. Overview of Microsoft Volume Licensing and Office Activation Technologies for Office 2010 and how describes how to plan for volume activation,” Combs stated.

At the rate at which Office 2010 is selling, the productivity suite will hit the 16 million sold licenses soon enough.
