14 DAY TRIAL // Concomitantly with the worldwide retail launch of the latest version of its productivity suite, Microsoft also provided customers with the Office 2010 International Terminology. Customers around the world can now head to the Microsoft Language Portal and take advantage of the terminology and UI strings for the successor of Office 2007, according to Palle Petersen, part of the Microsoft "Language Excellence" team. For the time being, the Redmond company is offering the Office 2010 RTM International Terminology in only 18 localized languages.
However, the promise from the software giant is that additional languages will be added soon. “Now Updated with Office 2010 Terminology - Search our localization glossaries and terminology database of more than 90 languages, download style guides, give us feedback on terminology used in our products, and find pointers to other Microsoft language and localization sites,” a message from the Microsoft Language Portal, which obviously covers more products than Office 2010, reads.
But as far as the latest iteration of the Office productivity suite is concerned, terminology was offered for the following languages: Arabic, Brazilian, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Thai.
“Additional languages will follow later as the Office 2010 localization team wraps up more languages,” Petersen stated. “By default, a search on the Language Portal display results from all products, including Office 2010. To narrow your search to Office 2010 terms and strings only, select ‘Office system’ in the Product drop-down. Don't forget that you can send us comments about international terminology used in our products via our Feedback form.”
Office 2010 was released to manufacturing in April 2010, and offered to the public yesterday, June 15th. Business users were able to buy Office 2010 as early as May. No less than three trial versions of Office 2010 RTM are now up for grabs as free downloads straight from Microsoft.
