The Virtual Reality revolution won't be like the lackluster 3D one

Cliff Bleszinski, noted games industry veteran and one of the investors in the Oculus Rift Virtual Reality headset, has emphasized just what sort of an experience the new device is and how it's like bringing an IMAX cinema into your house "and then some."

The Oculus Rift amazed quite a lot of gamers who helped it via a crowdfunding campaign as well as plenty of investors who poured more millions into the innovative company, including Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski.

He’s now talked a bit about the Rift overall on his Tumblr and emphasized that it's not like the 3D trend that started a few years ago.

"For those of you who like to dismiss the tech saying 'Oh it’s just like 3d, no one will want it' you obviously haven’t used it. When 3d is properly used in the theater for depth as opposed to a baseball coming at your face (see Avatar and Gravity for good uses) it is incredibly immersive," Bleszinski said.

"The problem is that most folks don’t really want it in their home. The effort of putting on the glasses isn’t worth the result in your average home setup outside of someone who has, well, an IMAX in their house."

According to the designer, the Rift is like having an IMAX in your house and delivers fantastic experiences that more than justify the cost and wearing the bulky headset.

"The Rift is an IMAX in your house, and then some. The effort of putting on the headset leads to an overwhelmingly fantastic result. When you put on the latest demo and you crouch and lean around the new world around you your brain adapts, adjusts, and you’re there."

Oculus is currently selling the dev kit edition of the Rift while still working hard on the consumer version.
