Obsidian Entertainment, as the developer, and Square Enix, as the publisher, have announced a partnership designed to create a new Dungeon Siege 3 videogame, set to arrive on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the PC. Apparently, Gas Powered Games, the company that created the first two Dungeon Siege titles, will also be consulted in order to make sure the new title stays true to the main concepts of the series.

The two companies are saying that the action gameplay element of Dungeon Siege will again take center stage but that a complex role playing game system will also be in place to render interesting character advancement and ensure that each choice has clearly defined consequences.

Dungeon Siege 3 will take place after a great conflict that leads to the downfall of the powerful factions of Ehb. Players will take on the role of one of the last remaining members of the 10 Legion, their task being to rebuild their organization and stop the slide towards evil. There will be companions to collect, villains and beasts to destroy, and magical weapons to wield. Obsidian is set to contribute its writing chops to the project and make sure that the fantasy narrative is humorous and engaging at the same time.

Square Enix and Obsidian are also talking about introducing a cooperative mode to Dungeon Siege 3 and about the unique personalities and abilities that will be linked with each NPC featured in the single player story.

Feargus Urquhart, who is a Chief Executive Officer and one of the co-founders of Obsidian Entertainment, stated, “It’s a distinct privilege and thrill to become a part of the DUNGEON SIEGE legacy. This partnership with Square Enix is a milestone for both Obsidian and the franchise, and the two companies’ strengths for compelling characters and storytelling will shine throughout DUNGEON SIEGE 3.”
