Back in last year's September, the story of Obie, the obese Dachshund, made headlines. Fast-forward several months, and Obie has a new figure to show off.

Daily Mail says that, since he first started living with his new owner and up until now, this pooch has managed to shake off nearly 40lb (18.14 kg).

Given the fact that Obie's initial weight was one of 70lb (31.74 kilograms), few can argue against the fact that this pooch has made some very serious progress.

As reported, Obie also had to undergo surgery in order to have the excess skin removed from its tummy.

The picture above is proof enough that the pooch is now doing great, and that he can finally go about exploring the great outdoors without being hindered by his weight.

“My hope is that he can be an inspiration to any person or animal trying to lose weight.”

“It is so important to introduce pups and kids to a healthy lifestyle and food choices as early as possible,” owner Nora Vanatta reportedly told the press.
