President of the United States gets his “Star Wars” and “Star Trek” mythology twisted

President Barack Obama has just gone where no man has gone before or, at least, not such a high-profile one as he is: during a recent White House briefing on Congress, Obama got his “Star Wars” and “Star Trek” mythology all mixed up.

Check it out in the video above somewhere at the 19-minute mark.

Fans must know that Obi-Wan Kenobi of “Star Wars” can do the “Jedi mind trick,” while Spock of the original “Star Trek” series can control people through the “Vulcan mind meld.”

Well, when talking about the stubborn Congress and how nothing short of being a dictator could help convince them to do “what’s right,” Obama promised he wouldn’t use the “Jedi mind meld” on them, but try reason instead.

As was to be expected, Trekkies and “Star Wars” fans reacted instantly on social media, some of them shocked that the President would get his mythology mixed up like this, but others amused that he got the best of both worlds with his cute flub.

Even Leonard Nimoy (who played Spock on “Star Trek”) was amused by the whole thing, but said the “Jedi mind meld” wouldn’t work: “Only a Vulcan mind meld would be effective on this Congress. LLAP,” he said.
