Promises sustained transfer rates of up to 2GB/s and 2TB of capacity

Mac Pro systems have been so far limited at supporting 3Gbps storage drives, but this will change soon thanks to OWC which is currently designing the first PCI Express SSDs compatible with Mac computers.

The yet unnamed SSD has been presented during the CES 2012 fair, and OWC has built it around a Marvell-based hardware RAID controller that is connected to four mini-PCI Express slots.

OWC calls this a modular design since it allows its users to populate the PCI Express card with as many mPCIe SSDs as they like.

These solid state drives will be provided by OWC itself and the company says that it will enable users to create a PCIe SSD that can feature anywhere in between 60GB and 2TB of storage space, while their SandForce controller can reach sustained transfer rates of up to 2GB/s.

Sadly, no info regarding pricing and availability was provided, outside of a sketchy Q2 shipping estimate.
