On the enterprise market, high storage capacities are often required, so OWC created a new rack mount storage solution that comes with both a high possible storage capacity and a wide set of connectivity capabilities.

Many small and medium businesses, when it comes to providing networked storage, resort to a NAS device, since it has all the capacity and functionality they need.

When it comes to corporate data centers and other enterprise applications, like professional production studios, expandability and connectivity become more important.

Rack mounts are known not just for their capacities, but also for their throughput, so OWC has created the Mercury Rack Pro.

It has room for up to four 3.5-inch SATA HDDs, and since each unit can have up to 3TB of storage space, that makes 12TB the top capacity achievable.

There is also mention of up to 256 MB of data buffer, as well as pre-configured RAID 5, plus SPAN, 0, 1, 3, 5, 10 RAID and non-RAID independent modes selectable by the user.

Additionally, OWC made drive management easy by using trayless drive bays, while connectivity options are also varied.

To be more specific, there are not just eSATA, FireWire 400 and FireWire 800 ports, but also SuperSpeed USB 3.0.

“This new rack mount design has been fully A/V tested and certified to meet the rigorous demands professional production studios and corporate data centers require in a rack mount storage solution,” said Larry O’Connor, Founder and CEO, Other World Computing.

“Complimenting its high capacity and data throughput are a host of user conveniences that make the Mercury Rack Pro ‘Quad Interface’ ideal for anyone seeking serious, yet easily manageable and highly reliable storage.”

Available in 15 pre-configured solutions, from 2 TB to 12 TB, the OWC Mercury Rack Pro has a starting price of $549.99.
