Anyone wondering what OWC was up to may be interested in learning that the company has completed its latest batch of enterprise solid state drives, the Mercury Enterprise Pro 6G series.

Other World Computing may be known for its habit of launching storage solutions for Apple products, but that doesn't mean it does nothing else.

As it happens, it has just been reported that the company is ready to start selling a new collection of enterprise solid state drives.

The series of new storage devices carries the name of Mercury Enterprise Pro 6G and, as the name implies, works on the SATA 6.0 Gbps interface (SATA III).

One of their traits is that, like most solid state drives, the newcomers stick to the 2.5-inch form factor.

Among the most important assets, though, is the SandForce 2582 controller, which enables them to actually put the bandwidth to good use.

The read and write speeds, as is common for SSDs, depend on the maximum capacity of the drives.

That said, the maximum data transfer rates are of 550 MB/s when reading and 525 MB/s when writing, while the random 4K read/write performance is of up to 60,000 IOPS.

Moving on, the OWC Mercury Enterprise Pro 6G drives possess chip-based 256-bit AES encryption, as server and data center NAND Flash storage drives often do.

Finally, OWC went one step further and tossed in the Paratus Power Technology, which prevents data loss in case of power cuts.

The Other World Computing Mercury Enterprise Pro 6G SSDs have capacities of 50 GB, 100 GB, 200 GB and 400 GB. These are unusual gigabyte numbers, owed to the Toshiba-made Enterprise Toggle Synchronous (eMLC) NAND memory chips.

In the above order, the prices are of $629 / 476 Euro, $799 / 605 Euro, $1,349 / 1,021 Euro and $2,199 / 1664 Euro. Shipments will start by the end of the quarter and OWC will offer a seven-year warranty with all of them.
