OWC is continuing its string of new products releases, this once unveiling a new solid state drive aimed at both mac systems and PCs, one that has a starting price of $129.99.

SandForce-enabled solid state drives are known for their very high read and write speeds, but they also tend to have prices that many users can easily consider steep.

OWC did its best to make sure that the Electra 6G line broke out of this trend, or at least skirted the lower ends as far as costs go.

Ultimately, prospective customers are the ones who will decide if $129.99 is a good price for a 60 GB SSD.

For those that want more information on the product line, it goes all the way up to 480 GB in capacity and has read and write speeds of 556 MB/s and 523 MB/s, respectively.

This, naturally, will spell only good things for whatever gaming machines, production workstations and home office machines end up using them.

All in all, the Electra 6G work about seven times faster than a standard factory hard drive that PCs and Macs come with.

“Our newest 60GB Mercury Electra 6G SSD is priced aggressively to offer one of lowest price points on the market for one of the highest performance SSD available,” said Larry O’Connor, Founder and CEO, Other World Computing.

“Then factor in our best in class warranty coverage and support services reputation and it’s safe to say this new model represents the best value on the market for a 6G based SSD.”

OWC also has Mercury Extreme Pro 6G units (559MB/s Read, 527MB/s Write and capacities of 120GB, 240GB, and 480GB), with which RAID 0, 1, 10 or SPAN configurations can be set up, for extra performance and security.

These ones are aimed at prosumers and A/V, photography and graphics professionals, for the most part.
