An official software update

Wireless carrier Sprint launched the BlackBerry Curve 8530 smartphone from Research In Motion only a few weeks ago, yet it seems that the company is already determined to enhance the mobile experience of its users. A new operating system flavor is now available for those who purchased the device from Sprint, namely OS 5.0.0.395.

The new BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.626 is available for download from the Canadian mobile phone maker's website, and it comes around with Software Platform: 4.2.0.167 and Applications: 5.0.0.395, while weighing in at 96.67MB. The software solution for Sprint's device comes as a multi-language download, and the fact that it is headed for the carrier is confirmed by its name: “8530AMEA_PBr5.0.0_rel626_PL4.2.0.167_A5.0.0.395_Sprint.exe.”

It is rather interesting to see that Sprint moves forth with delivering software updates for the BlackBerry Curve 8530 device even if it was not the first wireless carrier in the United States to have launched the phone. Verizon Wireless had it first, yet it seems that it is taking its time with providing enhancements to the smartphone (for what it's worth, we should say that Big Red is already known for that).

No details on what the new OS flavor brings around have emerged for the time being, but it shouldn't be too long before they do. Those who would like to try out the new platform update should check on the Software Platform and Applications version numbers on their devices, which can be found under Options-About screen, to see if it is needed, and then head to the download page here.

As many of you might know, it is recommended that, prior to proceeding with the installation of the update, one should perform a backup of all data on the handset. Even if the files are not affected, this will prevent for any important info on the phone to be lost in case something goes wrong with the installation, so it's better to be safe than sorry.
