14 DAY TRIAL // Chinese mobile phone maker Oppo has placed a volume production purchase order for mems|cam products from DigitalOptics Corporation, and it plans on including them inside its upcoming smartphones.
No specific info on which devices will be packed with the MEMS camera has been provided, though it might not be too long before OPPO provides specific details on the matter.
With the mems|cam module packed inside, users will enjoy increased speed, power, and precision when it comes to snapping photos or shooting videos, at least when compared to VCM (voice coil motor) camera modules.
Furthermore, MEMS cameras deliver highly differentiated features, especially if coupled with DOC’s world-class software.
“We are proud to announce that OPPO and DOC are exclusive launch partners. OPPO will be the first smartphone OEM to incorporate mems|cam products in volume,” stated John Thode, president of DigitalOptics Corporation.

DigitalOptics Corporation also makes it clear that OPPO’s devices will be the first on the market to pack its products.
In the press release that announced the deal, the company made it clear that recent rumors regarding the possible inclusion of mems|cam modules inside the upcoming Nexus 5 were not true.
“Last week, several technology news blogs reported that mems|cam was first being brought to market in another smartphone platform. Those reports were inaccurate,” the company said.
OPPO has managed to impress a lot of users with the unveiling of N1 last month, a powerful smartphone that packs a rotating 13-megapixel camera and the first in the world to come with support for CyanogenMod software right from the start (a limited edition CM version of the phone will also be released.)
