At this point, 4K UHD LCDs are poised for better success

Samsung may have high hopes from the ultra high-definition television market, as young as it may be, but it doesn't believe that OLED TVs will be as successful as 4K UHD models.

Unlike 4K, which is expected to quickly expand to all layers of the display market (as soon as people finally break the ice anyway), OLED will take more.

About three or four years still have to pass before OLED comes anywhere close to being considered ubiquitous.

The forecast belongs to HS Kim, executive vice president of Samsung's visual display business.

Given that OLED TVs cost around $9,000 / €9,000 right now, we're not that shocked by this forecast. Prices will have to fall to below $1,000 / €1,000 before anything else is accomplished.

It doesn't help that OLED has mostly been used for curved TVs lately, which are a lot more expensive than even that.
