The most capacious Platinum Edition memory kit is here

You all know some things about OCZ and the fact that they produce some of the best memory sticks ever so I won't be bothering you with that. However it is not always possible to match very high performance and high capacity and put it inside a single product. As a result, most manufacturers do not offer memory sticks with capacities higher than 1GB per module. But that doesn't mean it's not possible. And if it's possible, OCZ has to do it first.

Because they've just announced that they will mass produce 2x2GB dual channel kits dubbed "Platinum Edition". These are not the first 2GB modules in the world but according to OCZ, they are the fastest. At 800MHz, these babies can still keep a rather decent setup of 5-4-4 offering enough performance to make them worth the money. No one has tried to match 4 such sticks in order to see how an 8GB machine works under a 64-bit OS but according to OCZ, these sticks will work flawlessly.

"Nothing enhances system performance as much as the amount of memory since the system memory is still the fastest storage medium in any personal computer. High system memory densities become especially important for use with the latest platform generations utilizing PCI Express and other integrated peripherals such as network controllers since those components take away memory from the total system memory pool. More important is yet to make sure that memory performance is not sacrificed by going to high densities. That is where the new 4GB Platinum kits combine the best of two worlds-abundant memory with OCZ's patent-pending Enhanced Bandwidth Technology to again raise the bar for memory products," said Dr. Michael Schuette, VP of Technology Development at OCZ Technology.

The 4GB dual channel kit from OCZ will be shortly available on most local retailers. Unfortunately there's no word on the street pricing since OCZ hasn't released any data regarding the MSRP of this product. All that remains to be seen so if you want to own a pair of 2GB sticks from OCZ you should check for availability in a few weeks.
