Flash-based storage solutions, especially solid state drives, have actually grown in popularity quite a bit over the past year, as they have in performance and storage capacity. OCZ has been an avid promoter of such solutions, especially models powered by the ever so popular SandForce controllers. Nevertheless, the hardware maker initially started out as a supplier of desktop RAM (random access memory) and has now turned its gaze upon that segment once more by preparing a number of dual-channel and triple-channel high-speed DDR3 kits.

The newcomers that OCZ is readying are part of the Reaper HPC, Flex EX and Platinum lines. They have capacities of 8GB and 12GB and are composed of 4GB modules with clock speeds of 2,133 MHz. Mostly they are meant to enable smooth Full HD multimedia playback and high-end gaming, though they are also adept at intensive design and editing applications. CAD engineers, graphics designers and music/video professionals will benefit from the increased memory resources.

“Usually high speed and high density don’t go hand in hand, but our newly introduced high density 2133MHz memory solutions are engineered to do exactly that,” said Alex Mei, CMO at the OCZ Technology Group. “Designed for more than just raw speed, these new kits deliver an excellent blend of performance, density and reliability for a wide range of applications ranging from rendering video to smoother gameplay on the latest titles.”

Both the 8GB and 12GB kits have a voltage of 1.65V and latencies of 8-9-8-27, 9-10-9 or 10-10-10-30. All three lines are backed by their maker's lifetime warranty and should start selling soon, though the exact date is unknown. The Flex EX and Reaper HPC are aimed at high-end users and experienced overclockers, while the Platinum series will see to the needs of entry-level gamers and enthusiasts.
