Offering performance for a wide range of consumers

OCZ, one of the leading vendors of Flash-based memory and storage products, has recently announced a 2.5-inch storage solution that takes advantage of the increasingly popular Solid State Drive technology. With the announcement, the company has introduced the new OCZ Apex SATA II 2.5-inch SSD Series, designed as an affordable midrange solution, which can provide enthusiasts, system builders, and mainstream computer users with the performance advantages of the aforementioned technology. The company's new SSDs could be used as a reliable upgrade option, offering a faster performance level, when compared with traditional hard disk drives.

“As the adoption of SSD drives continues to ramp, it is our goal to enable everyday consumers to take advantage of the benefits of solid state drives,” said Eugene Chang, director of product management at OCZ Technology Group. “The new Apex Series is positioned at the center of our lineup and features an updated controller and internal RAID design to deliver superior performance to mainstream consumers at a very aggressive price.”

According to the technical specification sheet of the new drives, OCZ's Apex Series SSDs will become available in 60GB, 120GB and 250GB capacities. The read and write speeds are rated at up to 230MB/s and 160MB/s, respectively, with the seek time rated at lower than 0.2-0.3 ms. The flash-based drives have been featured with a 2.5-inch casing, making them ideal as a reliable storage solution for high-performance and mainstream portable computer systems. Additional features include an MTBF of 1.5 million hours and a two-year warranty.

The new Apex Series has been designed to enable notebooks to provide an extensive battery life, offering low-power consumption and increased access time, basically boosting the overall performance of the portable computer system. The company hasn't specified any details regarding the availability or pricing of its latest Apex Series Solid State Drives.
