UK wireless carrier O2 has made its O2 Tracks application available for download for all owners of Windows Phone devices, regardless of whether they are running WP 7.5 or WP8, so that they could enjoy UK's Official Top 40 hits while on the go.

The application is available for download for free, and was designed to deliver support for all Windows Phone devices, regardless of the network they are on.

The service is available for free for the first eight weeks for all O2 customers (only two for other users), and requires a weekly fee of £1 (non-O2 subscribers have to pay £4.99 per month for the service). However, users can choose not to subscribe when the trial period ends.

Basically, O2 Tracks was designed to download UK's Official Top 40 Chart, along with 20 of the most popular other songs on users’ Windows Phone device, for free listening even when offline.

All 60 tracks are being downloaded as soon as the chart has been announced each week, enabling users to listen to them as many times as they want to on their handsets.

As Pocket-lint notes, the application was also designed to deliver to customers celebrity gossip, playlists and more.

Some of the main features of the new application include:

- Unlimited plays of the Official Top 40 - the UK’s biggest hits always up to date - Just In Playlist - packed with new releases every day - Exclusive O2 Playlist – the nation’s favourite classics tracks as voted on tracks.o2.co.uk - Daily celebrity news and gossip - Free trial - All UK networks welcome

O2 also notes that its users can have the service charged to their monthly bill, and that those on other networks can sign up with a credit card or with a PayPal account.

The carrier also recommends the use of Wi-Fi networks for downloading the app and subsequent updates on their smartphones, as charges might apply if the tracks are downloaded through a mobile network.

Those who would like to take the app for a spin should head over to this page on the Windows Phone Store to download it.
