Apart from dominating the discrete graphics cards market segment, Nvidia is also one of the most important desktop chipset manufacturers that offers a wide range of products for both x86 compatible hardware platforms that are based on central processing units made by both Intel and Advanced Micro Devices.

While Nvidia is considered the top manufacturer and supplier of AMD compatible mainboard chipsets, it recently lost some market share as the processor producer is now interested in pushing ahead its own products. Apart from a wide range of desktop mainboard chipsets that are aimed at providing a high performance platform for AMD compatible computer systems, Nvidia has also lower performance offerings that are coming with integrated graphics solutions and they are aimed at lower cost, entry level desktop computers.

According to the news site digitimes, Nvidia is going to launch a new generation of desktop mainboard chipsets compatible with the Advanced Micro Devices hardware platform and that new product line will come with integrated graphics solutions. Named MCP72 IGP, the new Nvidia chipset will arrive at mainboard manufacturing companies at the end of November or in the first days of December.

The new Nvidia chipset is going to come in two variants, one high end aimed at high performance computers named MCP72XE and one lower end model called MCP72P that will come with a low price tag. Both of these new Nvidia chipsets will offer native support for HyperTransport 3.0 while also supporting AMD Phenom processing units.

The high end model, the MCP72XE, will come as a two chip solution and it will sport 35 PCI Express lanes that are compatible with the PCI Express 2.0 standard, while also being able to support dual x16 or quad x8 multi graphics cards setups. The lower end MCP72P will come as a single chip with 18 PCI Express lanes that will offer native support for PCI Express 2.0 too, while being able to house only a limited dual x8 SLI mode.

As the external setup of the new generation of Nvidia chipsets is pin compatible with the previous models, mainboard manufacturers will need to adjust their printed circuit boards design and so reduce costs and time to market.
