Nvidia announced the availability of the new GeForce 6800 GS graphics processing unit (GPU), the latest addition to the company's line-up. Based on the GeForce 6 architecture, the 6800 GS features new gaming technologies like Shader Model 3.0, high dynamic range (HDR) lighting, and Scalable Link Interface (SLI) technology.

The GeForce 6800 GS GPU has a 256-bit memory interface and a dedicated video processing engine that delivers high-definition video playback. Boards based on this GPU are available for purchase at approximately US$249 from major producers, including Albatron, Chaintech, Galaxy, Innovision, Leadtek and MSI.

Long waited holiday season games, such as Age of Empires 3, Call of Duty 2, Quake 4 or Serious Sam 2, support the latest 3D features and require a lot of graphics performance to deliver an enjoyable gaming experience, and the video cards based on GeForce 6800 GS GPUs deliver the needed processing power.
