While everybody is waiting for Nvidia’s much anticipated LTE enabled Tegra chipsets, the company is strengthening its communications IP portfolio by jointly acquiring approximately 500 granted and pending patents in the wireless communications area, that were developed and owned by IPWireless.

Nvidia’s partner in this acquisition is Intellectual Ventures, a mainly IP company.

The deal was signed on 30th of April 2012 and no financial terms were made public.

The ownership of the patents was split between the two investors, but Nvidia is licensing the patents it did not acquire, while Intellectual Ventures acquired the rest.

The wireless developer IPWirelss is retaining perpetual, royalty-free access to all the patents related to the deal in question.

It’s good to see Nvidia working for better integration of its mobile and low power processors.
