That Lenovo was one of, if not the fastest growing PC business, isn't new, but market analysts decided to see exactly what things were like on the PC segment.

The PC market may be raising concerns for certain analysts, but that doesn't mean shipment levels aren't growing.

Even if they weren't, there is still one company that is thriving, even as Acer, among others, are going through a less than stellar period, sales-wise.

Indeed, as IHS clearly shows, Lenovo, PC company based in China, has been doing especially well.

In fact, during the second quarter, it secured third spot in the top PC maker list, right after HP and Dell.

With HP's questionable decision to back out of the PC segment, the rankings might change further, quite soon even.

Regardless, the fact is that Lenovo showed the best percentage growth of the world's top 5 computer makers, both annually and sequentially.

“Beyond the continuing strength in its home market of China—where the both the economy and PC demand continued to expand vigorously—Lenovo’s performance in the second quarter was boosted by rising sales in other regions,” said Matthew Wilkins, principal analyst, compute platforms for IHS.

“These regions included the broader Asia-Pacific area, as well as the United States, with Lenovo performing well in those places because of demand from the enterprise segment. Meanwhile, Acer suffered from inventory problems, particularly in Western Europe, which lowered its shipments and resulted in lost market share.”

For those that want numbers, 10.2 million shipments was the second quarter figure, a 25.6% increase over the 8.2 million of the previous quarter, and 23% higher than the 8.3 million of Q2 2010.

Acer, on the other hand, saw a 4% decline, from Q1's 9.2 million to 8.9 million (2010 Q2 figure was 11.1 million, implying a 20% drop).
