Earlier this day, I wrote an article about Google's new image search function which gives you the possibility to search for extra large pictures straight from Google's technology. Until now, Google Image Search allowed you to search only for small images, medium or large which according to the Mountain View company are the ones above 1024 x 768. Imagine that many of you having screen resolutions higher than 1024 x 768 could find wallpapers pretty difficult because there was no way to filter the extra large photos from the others. Now you can do this with ease by choosing extra large in the drop down menu published on the Image Search SERP.

So, how can you search for a certain wallpaper using the power of Google? Well, there are a few tips which might help you find a picture for your desktop. As Ionut Alex Chitu from Google Operating System stated, you can apply some filters to remove the pictures which don't match your query.

First of all, let's suppose you're looking for 1680 x 1050 wallpapers for your widescreen monitor. You can try searching Google straight with this resolution because numerous photos are named exactly with this tag. In addition, you can add the 'wallpaper' to reduce the amount of useless pictures.

But what if you want car wallpapers with this resolution? Well, the search query should be expanded with this term so it should look like 'car wallpaper 1680 1050'. Moreover, you can filter the results displayed by Google by the format of the pictures in order to show only the high-quality ones. Usually, these are the JPG pictures so add the filetype operator in your query.

So, the final query should look like this one but you can replace some of the terms to adapt it with your settings: "car wallpaper 1680 1050 filetype:jpg".
