The company announced for April the release of the last version for the SUSE Linux operating system, designed for individual users. SUSE Linux 9.3 will include the complete operating system and an assorted suite of desktop and networking applications.

Version 9.3 is presented as a secure alternative to the most popular operating system, produced by Microsoft, too often criticized because of the security issues its users encounter.

This SUSE Linux distribution offers the open source office suite, OpenOffice, recently released in its 2.0 version. Obviously, the list of open-source solutions couldn't miss Firefox, the browser with the best odds in the battle against Internet Explorer. Online communication capabilities are completed by integrated mail and instant messaging clients.

The 9.3 distribution includes graphic editing and multimedia solutions, through F-Spot photo organizer, GIMP 2.2 and InkScape, and also CD and DVD burning applications.

Novell didn't leave out the security segment as well, and SUSE Linux 9.3 assures the system's security through firewall and antivirus programs and spam filters.

The operating system can be used on 32-bit systems, as well as on the new generation 64-bit machines, offering support for AMD Athlon 64 and Intel Extended Memory 64-bit processors. The Linux novices can request free support for 90 days, if the installation guides don't prove useful.

The operating system will be released mid-April and will cost 77.5 euros. Upgrades will be priced at 51.6 euros.
