The introduction of entry-level Haswell processors and Windows 8.1 seem to have helped notebook shipments in the third quarter of 2013, new information provided by WitsView, the display research division of the global intelligence provider TrendForce, reveals.

According to the new details, Q3 shipments reached 43.4 million units, a number which represents a 10.1% increase quarter-over-quarter. Also the top nine notebook vendors in the old world managed to increase their business by 6.3%.

But not all news is good. Even if this quarter’s notebook shipments were on the rise, the period saw an on-year decline of 5.1%.

You might be wondering which brand vendor ended up on top of the food chain. It was HP, which managed to ship 8.2 million units, seeing an overall 15.8% increase on-quarter. Dell came in at number two with 5.1 million and a more significant increase of 20.8%. Completing the top three, Apple delivered 3.1 million units with a 48% rise.
