Symantec has just announced a new security solution for Android tablets called Norton Tablet Security. The application is now available from select U.S. and regional retailers for a suggested retail price of $39.99 (29 EUR).

In addition, the company announced a new update for its Norton Mobile Security application for Android smartphones, which brings several new features, including the “Scream” function and web-based anti-theft capabilities.

The new Norton Tablet Security solution, especially designed for Android tablets is meant to protect user’s sensitive data against loss, viruses, theft, as well as threats.

Among the most interesting features offered by the security solution, the Web Protection function is very useful, as the application alerts users about any malicious websites and protects the tablet from content downloaded via Wi-Fi or mobile networks.

With the web-based Anti-Theft feature users can rest assure that they will be able to remotely lock their device in case it's stolen or lost. The application can also locate the device on the map or can take a photo of the user with the front-facing camera.

An anti-malware feature helps with the scanning of new apps and app updates downloaded to the mobile device and SD card.

With today’s smartphones, people stand to risk losing much more than contact information when a device is lost or stolen – it’s access to their email, social networking sites, financial institutions or even exposing personal photos or videos, as many celebrities have,” said Dave Cole, vice president, mobile products, Norton.

On related news, the updated Norton Mobile Security comes with a new “Scream” feature that allows users to find a lost or stolen phone.

Obviously, customers who already own Norton Mobile Security will receive the new feature updates for free.

Norton Mobile Security is available for a suggested retail price of $29.99 (30 EUR), which provides one year of protection.
