Together with the new Nook Tablet and the price cut for the Nook Color, Barnes & Noble also announced the release of an updated version of the Nook Simple Touch eReader.
With a $99 (72 EUR) price tag this is now $40 (29 EUR) cheaper than its predecessor while also sporting a faster page turn time of just 450ms.
Interestingly enough, Barnes & Noble says that the speed improvements don't actually come from the use of a faster eInk screen, but rather from the introduction of the Best-Text software.
Exiting Nook Simple Touch owners will also get this software as part of a firmware upgrade which will arrive in the coming weeks over WiFi (the manual upgrade version is available right now).
Outside of the faster page turn times, B&N's updated eReader is said to also deliver better battery life, while adverts have been stripped out too.
All in all, I would say that the Nook Simple Touch is one of the most impressive eInk readers out there, especially considering the “no annoying ads” policy used by Barnes & Noble (take that Amazon).
