The awards season is nearly around the corner and, just as Hollywood is preparing for the Oscars, the UK is also getting ready to celebrate a year in filmmaking with the BAFTAs. The nominees for the Orange Rising Star have been announced.

Each year, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts honors a breakthrough actress or actress whose work has been most prominent for the year that’s passed.

Of a longlist of 8, the Academy has shortlisted 5, and they are as follows: Andrew Garfield, Gemma Arterton, Tom Hardy, Aaron Johnson and Emma Stone, as ContactMusic reports.

Because of how well they fared in Hollywood productions (“Inception” and “The Social Network”), Hardy and Garfield are considered the favorites to win in the category but that takes nothing of the merits of all five.

Arterton and Stone have too made big in the US and worldwide thanks to releases like “Clash of the Titans” and “Prince of Persia” for the former, and the critically acclaimed “Superbad” and “Easy A” for the latter.

Johnson too did well for himself in 2010, starring in what’s been deemed the most original action movie with a comic book feel, “Kick Ass.”

Speaking of the nominees at the official announcement, panel member Ben Drew said, “It was a great honor to be invited on the jury panel for the Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award this year.”

“I recently directed my first feature film and therefore know that there is a wealth of inspiring rising talent out there and it is awards such as these that help these guys get their names in lights,” Drew added.

“I am really pleased with the final five for this year’s award and I can’t wait to see who the public vote for,” he added.

Indeed, it’s the public who decided who gets to take home the big prize. The awards ceremony will take place at the Royal Opera House in London on February 13.
