Nokia is expected to announce 12MP phone and new naming scheme for its handsets next week

Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia is expected to bring something new on display during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, including a new handset and a new naming scheme for its devices. There have been already a series of rumors regarding the naming scheme Nokia aims at putting in place for its devices, and now it seems that things are getting closer to being unveiled officially.

A recent post on Tom’s Guide from France (via thenokiablog) suggests that Nokia is about to share with the world its plans regarding the recently spotted C, S and X series, as well as on the older E and N ones. Moreover, we should expect for the handset vendor to announce a new mobile phone, one that boasts a 12-megapixel photo snapper inside, it seems.

Here's what the naming scheme should be all about, according to the blog: C: lower end voice-based. X: focus on entertainment, music for a young target E: dedicated to business, solutions for e-mails N: High-end S: very upscale and limited editions

There are also some mobile phones given as examples, including Nokia C5-00, a basic business device with GPS capabilities that should arrive in June, a Nokia C3-00 handset that should land as a low-cost multitasking Symbian S40 QWERTY device, or the Nokia C5-01, a QWERTY handset expected to compete directly with RIM's Blackberry smartphones.

As for the aforementioned 12MP behemoth, it should arrive as the Nokia N8-00, while boasting a capacitive multitouch 3.5-inch display, and being the first mobile phone in the world to run under the Symbian^3 OS. Its camera should offer video recording capabilities (720p at 30 frames per second), and it is also said to include HDMI output.

For what it's worth, things might indeed pan out, since both the 12MP phone from Nokia and a new naming scheme have been rumored to emerge, but we'll still take this with a grain of salt for the time being. Nokia already announced that it would hold a private event during the MWC show in Barcelona, and things should be brought to light next week, so stay tuned.
