A few weeks back, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia started to deliver the Nokia Black update to the owners of Lumia handsets out there, and it appears that it will push it to almost all devices before the end of this month.

The info comes from a blog post on Nokia Conversations, which confirms that the Nokia Black Update will continue to roll out, though its availability will depend on carriers.

“Nearly all will have it by the end of January. Bear in mind that, for some models and regions, the timing of the update will be dependent on the localized network carrier,” the blog post unveils.

Handsets will automatically check on the availability of the update, and users will be notified as soon as it has arrived on their devices. However, as usual, they will also be able to manually check on its availability.

“Your Nokia Lumia will automatically check for updates every week, and will notify you if Black is ready for your phone. Alternatively, go to Settings > Phone update and manually check. If it is available, you’ll be able to download and install it straight from that screen,” the blog post continues.

Nokia also reaffirmed that Nokia Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 can download and install Nokia Beamer following the upgrade, and that Nokia ReFocus is also available for devices with at least 1GB of RAM.

However, DNG / RAW support will continue to be available only for the owners of Nokia Lumia 1020 and Lumia 1520 smartphones, which sport 41-megapixel and 20-megapixel PureView cameras, respectively.

Those users who would like to create folders and add them to their Start Screen will be able to do so, courtesy of the App Folder application.   “Once installed and open, you’ll see a big + button at the bottom of the screen. Tap that to create your first folder. Give your folder a relevant name – Games, Favourites, Fitness, Settings – then tap the tick at the bottom of the screen,” the blog post continues.

“To add apps or settings to the folder you’ve just created, just select the box next to your desired app (swipe to the Settings menu to add things like Bluetooth, Flight Mode and Wi-Fi). Select as many as you want and, when you’re done, tap the tick button at the bottom.”

Nokia Glance Screen will also be available on Nokia Black devices, and it can be accessed by going to Settings and scrolling down the System list. Glance is set to Off by default, but users can enable it and choose from peek, interval, or always on modes.

Apps and settings should remain unaffected during the installation of the Nokia Black update. The release has already reached a great deal of devices, though many users are still waiting for it, so stay tuned to learn more on its deployment.
