Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has been long rumored to plan changing the manner in which it names its mobile phones, and now some more specific details on the matter emerged. Most of you might already know that the company will have four series of devices from now on, including Nokia Cseries, Xseries, Eseries and Nseries, yet few details on what the handsets in these series will come to the market with have emerged so far.

“This new naming convention is designed to make things easier for users, so they can quickly and easily work out where a device sits within the series and beyond that have a clearer idea of what each series does. Nseries remains the flagship and most advanced range of products. Xseries comes next and focuses on social entertainment. Eseries remains focussed on productivity and business whilst Cseries represents the core range of products,” a recent post on Nokia Conversations states.

The Eseries and Nseries devices have been around for quite some time now, and most of you should already know what they are all about, while the Xseries and Cseries are newer devices, the former having been launched last year, while the latter was officially unveiled today, along with the Nokia C5. For the time being, no new Eseries or Nseries handsets were unveiled, but it might not be long before Nokia decides to make the move.

When it comes to the numbers in each handset's name, the aforementioned post says that they show both the functionality each handset comes around with, as well as the price range it falls into. For example, the handsets sporting 1 in their names are the lowest priced and less feature packed ones, while those with a 9 in the name are the highest.

“Work on the new naming convention started way back in 2008, when extensive consumer research was done around the subject. The results of this research culminated in a new naming convention being created and first introduced late last year,” the post on Nokia Conversations concludes. What still remains to be seen is what the Eseries and Nseries devices will actually include, since both Cseries and Xseries phones are already available for purchase.
