Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has finally confirmed plans to bring to the market new Lumia handsets before the end of this quarter, although no specific details on any of them have been provided.

Today, the company announced its financial results for the first quarter of the year, posting an increase when compared to the previous quarter, thus beating initial estimates.

During the earnings call that followed the announcement, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop himself confirmed that the company is gearing up for the launch of new devices in the not too distant future.

The first of these smartphones will be a flagship model, it seems, set to hit shelves at a US carrier, supposedly being none other than the long rumored Lumia 928 for Verizon.

“Later this quarter a new Lumia device is anticipated to have hero status with a leading US carrier,” Elop said during the call with investors, The Verge reports.

Furthermore, the company’s CEO confirmed that Nokia has other Lumia models in the pipeline as well, and that the aforementioned high-end smartphone would mark the beginning of new launches.

Elop did not offer specifics on the matter, nor did he comment on the possible existence of the Lumia 928, but chances are that all will be made official before the end of this month.

Previous rumors on the matter also suggested that Nokia was preparing the launch of a new Lumia smartphone with high-end camera capabilities, codenamed EOS, which might be an AT&T exclusive, while expected to sport a 41MP camera on the back.

Another rumored handset from the company is codenamed Catwalk, and should arrive on shelves before the end of the year with a new aluminum body.

None of these smartphones has been officially confirmed until now, but Elop’s statement suggests that details on them should start being delivered in the near future, so stay tuned to learn more on the matter.
