Nokia and T-Mobile have announced that they are working together in order to bring T-Mobile's core services to the market on S60 devices.

The two companies also aim to improve the ability for S60 licensees to create devices for T-Mobile. The collaboration with T-Mobile for S60 follows similar collaborations with Vodafone and Orange established last year.

"T-Mobile recognizes the benefits of software platforms and sees open operating systems such as S60 on Symbian OS crucial for our platform strategy. We are pleased with the customization package that S60 offers to address T-Mobile's specific requirements. The timely and cost effective customization is key to guaranteeing device time to market," said Przemek Czarnecki, Executive Vice President, Terminal Technology at T-Mobile.

The strategic agreements with three of Europe's biggest operators, T-Mobile, Orange and Vodafone, are very important for S60 and demonstrate a level of mobile operator commitment.

The third mobile operator to partner for S60, T-Mobile, will get improved support for putting its customer services onto the S60 platform, while S60 will be working to ensure that the S60 product roadmap and the mobile operator's services and devices align as closely as possible.

"We see this as a great opportunity to deliver a great consumer experience and to evolve our respective businesses," said Matti V?nsk?, Vice President, Mobile Software Sales and Marketing, Nokia. "The benefits of a multi-vendor platform strategy are being recognized by operators, and S60, the market-leading smartphone software platform, is well positioned in this space. The flexibility of S60 software enables T-Mobile to implement Internet-based service concepts consistently across handsets from various manufacturers".
