Nokia's Xseries is being extended with a new feature-phone, the X2-01. The device has just leaked from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology website, the agency responsible for regulation and certification of telecommunication equipment. The new rumored handset strongly resembles Nokia's C3 model, which was released back in June. Just like the C3 and most of the Eseries smartphones, the X2-01 packs a full QWERTY keyboard, but runs on the S40 platform, instead of Symbian.

The X2-01 is a quad-band phone and is compatible with all GSM frequencies (GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz). It measures 119.4 x 59.8 x 14.3 mm and weighs 114g (including the battery).

The phone comes with a TFT display with 320x240 pixel resolution, built-in games, support for Java MIDP 2.1 apps, USB support, Bluetooth connectivity and built-in FM tuner.

Unlike Nokia C3, which features a 2-megapixel camera, the X2-01 sports an upgraded 3-megapixel camera but, as shown in the attached photos, it lacks a flash.

Furthermore, the S40 feature-phone embeds 42 MB internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion.

Following its aggressive marketing policy on the emerging markets such as China and India, Nokia is determined to boost its sales even more by launching a wide range of entry-level handsets.

Low-budget phones have become a big chunk of Nokia's revenue since its arrival on these emerging markets and the Finnish giant is trying to keep the momentum by launching new handsets frequently.

Nokia X2-01 is probably one of the dozen phones that will be released in one of the emerging markets, but will see internationalization afterwards. By the look of it, China will be the first country to get the handset, but Russia and India will probably follow soon after.

There's no word on the phone's exact launch date, nor its price tag, but details will probably leak over the coming week.
