More detailed maps and refined public transit lines

While Nokia finds a buyer for its HERE maps business, the team behind the location service is working to keep the application one step ahead of the competition.

In this regard, HERE announced that it has recently released a major update for its maps application on Windows Phone, Android and iOS platforms.

The changes are similar on all platforms and bring important improvements and a few new features.

First of all, developers have confirmed that the application now features more details maps in the following countries: Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and the island nation of São Tomé and Príncipe.

On top of that, the update should now allow for navigation within HERE apps, and show a much fuller road network and land usage details for the countries mentioned earlier.

Next in line, the update also promises more refined public transit line in more areas of the Americas, in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

In addition, developers promise that the improved data source that they are now using will have the added bonus of being easier and quicker to update in the future.

New business case features

Last but not least, HERE maps developers confirmed that in this update, there' a particular upgrade for logistics companies. Apparently, they made it possible for the truck attributes of roads to be seen in offline apps.

Keep in mind that in order to get the latest update for HERE maps on Android and iOS, you will have to wait to receive a notification from developers. Then, simply follow the instructions given to update the downloaded maps.

Windows Phone users, on the other hand, will have to open the settings app on their phones, then tap the app tab / maps / check for updates.

Keep in mind that the application needs to be restarted for the new changes on the map to be enabled.
