Last month, during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia unveiled a new, highly affordable feature phone in the form of Nokia 220, and the company is now teasing some of the features and capabilities that this device will land on shelves with.

According to Nokia, despite the fact that this is a basic phone and that it does not include the high-end features and capabilities that smartphones pack inside, the phone will still provide users with more than simple calling functionality.

In fact, the device was announced with Internet navigation capabilities, and Nokia appears set to show the world that this phone can easily prove a great first web device for those who did not have the chance to enjoy such capabilities before.

“There’s no better device to welcome those web newbies than the brand new Nokia 220 – the perfect first internet device for someone less concerned about megapixels and multi-core processors,” the company notes in a recent post on Nokia Conversations.

Basically, the new handset is the most affordable Nokia data phone to date, and should appeal a lot to users in emerging markets, who do not afford data plans.

The device will allow them to easily stay close to their friends and family while on the go, and comes to the market with features such as the Nokia Xpress Browser and Microsoft Bing Search.

It sports a traditional candybar form factor with an alphanumeric keyboard on the front and no touch capabilities.

Even so, it will still be able to keep users up to date with news and travel and transport information, as well as with their favorite football team’s scores.

On top of that, Nokia 220 was launched with a series of essential applications built-in right from the start, including Facebook and Twitter, thus providing people with the possibility to easily share photos and the like with their friends.

Additionally, the handset comes with dual-SIM compatibility, which means that travelers might find it a great option as well, as they can easily pick up a local SIM card when abroad and make cheaper local calls.

Nokia 220 also features a 2MP camera on the back, while being set to arrive on the market in a variety of color options. At the same time, Nokia notes that the new device sports high durability and that it will also deliver great battery life, with up to 15 hours of talk time.

“More than ever before our lives and social activities are arranged online, so it’s important we don’t leave anyone behind,” Nokia also notes.
