The latest application to come out of the Nokia Beta Labs is meant to enhance the appearance of Nokia's Symbian mobile phones, with always-on decorative graphics, and more.

The new software was just published in an experimental beta flavor, and comes with support for Symbian^3 smartphones, offering status indications at a glance, or a calm nighttime clock, along with the said decorative graphics.

“Nokia Sleeping Screen makes your phone stand out from the crowd by painting beautifully crafted images on the sleeping screen,” the guys over at Nokia Beta Labs note.

“It is not only about aesthetics - Nokia Sleeping Screen is highly useful, too. With just a glimpse you’ll be able to see missed calls, unread text messages, and reminders presented with clear icons and animations.”

For example, the screen would actually turn off when the device is put in the pocket. Not to mention that the timed night clock would appear at times when users go to sleep.

Some of the main features of the new application would include:

- Personalization by selecting the appearance of the phone. - Time & date always visible with a glimpse of the phone. - Rich visual notifications of missed calls, sms, and calendar events. - Night clock mode setting to dim the appearance for night period. - Very clear battery charging indication with animation. - Low power consumption, decreased even further by turning screen off when phone is covered, for example in a bag or your pocket As stated above, the new mobile application was made available for download for Symbian^3 phones, including C6-01, C7-00, N8-00, and E7-00. According to the development team, the app would work with the latest S^3 SW versions, as well as with Qt versions 4.6.4 and 4.7.2.

The developers team behind the application also came up with a video to show some of the features they packed it with.
