Nokia has just announced the winner of the mini-movie competition Nokia Shorts 2011 with the top prize of $10,000 USD. It appears that this year's award goes to JW Griffiths, for his movie Splitscreen

The movie's main story is love. The author used two perspectives at once on the same screen to follow the life of two people coming from different parts of the world and fall in love.

The eight finalists of the competition were given two Nokia N8s each and a $5,000 budget to make a short movie in a few weeks.

All movies have been showcased at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in front of film industry experts and movie fans, where a jury picked the winning production.

Nokia Shorts 2011 jury included: Oscar winner and CEO of digital advertising agency R/GA Bob Greenberg, Director of short film “Rare Exports, Inc“, Jalmari Helander, Vice President for Marketing Creation, Nokia, Steven Overman and Creative Director, Film + Video VIMEO / Director Vimeo Festival and Awards, Jeremy Boxer.

Every film submitted for the final of Nokia Shorts was exceptional but James’ movie about two people falling in love stood out. The objective of competition was to empower filmmakers from around the world with the amazing, high quality video capabilities of the Nokia N8 smartphone,” said Nokia’s Vice President Marketing Creation, Steven Overman.
