Nokia has already announced that it will bring its own major software update for Lumia smartphones, which will include more than the usual Windows Phone 8.1 features.

According to the Finnish company, several additional improvements specially designed for Lumia smartphones will be delivered via the Lumia Cyan update, which is set for release this summer.

As mentioned earlier, the Lumia Cyan update will also contain all the features included in Windows Phone 8.1, so Lumia smartphone owners should not be worried that they will not get the entire package of goodies promised by Microsoft.

However, it looks like there are some details about the Lumia Cyan update that have been made publicly available by Nokia.

According to NokiaPowerUser, there are new camera features that have not been mentioned in Nokia’s official statement about Lumia Cyan, which have recently been unveiled by the company’s Ari Partinen via Finnish publication Tekniikkatalous.

Partinen has confirmed that besides the already known features, Lumia Cyan will bring updated camera sensitivity, as well as noise reduction algorithm improvements and color management. Here is what he had to say about these camera improvements:

“Nokia camera has been revamped in such a way that two images ( 5 MP + Full-res) will no more be saved, thereby speeding up image capture. This will take care of complaints of slow image capturing speed on Lumia PureView devices with Nokia Camera.

It doesn’t become clear, but seems a new feature will allow each still image capture to be stored in a few seconds of video clip as well and one can choose to turn off this feature for saving on storage.”

But there is more to it, as Partinen claims that the Camera Roll will have a new look, allowing users to access their images faster and edit them much easier. Furthermore, all Smart Shots, Cinemagraphs, and Refocus photos will be stored in the Camera Roll, which, again, will make them easier to access.

The Creative Studio app has been completely overhauled and there are new features included. The new Creative Studio app will be accessible from within the Camera Roll, so users can edit photos on the go and make the most of the five new filters.

Last but not least, Nokia Storyteller has been confirmed to include a new video slideshow feature that can be shared via social networks such as Facebook and/or Twitter.

Lumia smartphone owners should expect even more new features to be included in Lumia Cyan update, but for now, these are the only ones that have been confirmed. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
