Nokia has unveiled yet another device in its Nseries lineup, the N79 Eco, which seems to be the close follower of the Nokia N79 Active. The new mobile phone can already be seen on the company's site, where it’s available for pre-order as well. The first thing that you see on the website is that the handset is offered without a charger, as customers are expected to use the one they already have.

The fact that the Nokia N79 Eco is shipped without a charger comes in line with the company's 'power of we:' strategy to reduce waste and become more environmentally friendly. In addition to that, the phone comes in a smaller package, also meant to further save energy and waste. Moreover, the company announces that it will donate £4 to the WWF (a global conservation organization), for each N79 Eco it sells.

The phone is expected to come pre-loaded with the 'power of we:' content which is already available to users. The price of the Nokia N79 Eco is the same as that of any other regular N79 handset, £319. At the same time, aside from the eco-benefits, the device comes with the Petrol Black theme, meant to give it a shiny look (compared to Canvas White/Seal Gray).

The company did not disclose any information on the shipping date of the device. At the moment, the Nokia N79 Eco can be pre-ordered on Nokia's UK online store, but it is expected to become available in other regions as well through Nokia flagship stores.

When considering Nokia's move in delivering the N79 Eco in a smaller box we should think of the number of units the company has shipped in the past few years. According to the news, the Finnish maker shipped around 250 million phones in smaller packages between February 2006 and the end of 2007, which resulted in about 5,000 less truck journeys and 100 million Euros saved. In 2007, the company managed to save 15,000 tonnes of material and 100,000 m3 of water.
