Nokia becomes the world's most sustainable technology company twice in a row

Today, leading mobile phone maker Nokia announced that it has been named the most sustainable technology company in the world in the new prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes Review 2010.

According to the Finnish handset vendor, it has been chosen as “Technology Supersector Leader,” something that makes it number one over the entire global technology sector for the second time in row.

It's a common fact that the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes are world-wide respected rankings that have at base thorough analysis of economic, environmental and social performance of companies.

Nokia, the number one handset manufacturer in the world, scored high on all said dimensions.

“The second consecutive number one slot across the entire global technology industry is a great recognition of the continued and strong commitment by Nokia employees to sustainable business practices,” Timo Ihamuotila, Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer, Nokia said.

“For us, sustainability is not a trend but our way of doing business. We remain committed to action and continue to look beyond our own operations to harness the power of mobile technology to address environmental, social and economic issues.”

According to the company, it offers a series of personalized services for users, combined with advanced technology, so as to offer people ways to stay in touch with what matters the most to them.

The index also unveils the fact that Nokia has a strong performance in areas that include customer relationship management, risk management, standards for suppliers, environmental policy and management system, labor practices, talent attraction and human capital development.

“Selecting components from 2,500 companies worldwide, the indexes are relied upon by leading institutional investors,” the leading mobile phone maker noted.
