Nokia recently released a firmware update for the North American version of its N95 high-end phone, bringing more speed, more applications and several improvements to the handset.

The new firmware is the 20.02.011 version and it comes after the European edition of N95 was updated about two months ago. According to several users from the Howard Forums, the 20.02.011 firmware brings, first of all, more speed to the N95-3 - the phone now requires less than 20 seconds to boot-up, while the camera now starts-up in only 2 seconds.

Other new things that the 20.02.011 firmware comes with include support for Flash Lite 3 (hence users can easily watch Flash videos directly from the Web - YouTube being a good source for this), Web runtime (for Widgets support), plus overall performance enhancements. Moreover, the new firmware brings an improved "Search" application, N-Gage demos and other games like "Midnight Pool", "Lumines Puzzle Fusion", "Brain Challenge", "Sudoku" and "JellyPOP".

The Nokia N95-3 20.02.011 firmware is available via the Nokia Software Updater (NSU) that can be downloaded from this address (for free, obviously).

In case you're confused on what the N95-3 (or N95-1) naming represents, let's clear this out: the original version of N95, released by Nokia in Europe, is also known as N95-1. The original N95 8GB, released in Europe too, is also known as N95-2. And finally, the North American versions of N95 and N95 8GB are also called N95-3 and respectively N95-4. That's why we mentioned only the N95-3 in the title - as now only the North American N95 got a firmware update.

There's no word yet about when Nokia will upgrade the firmware of N95-4 (N95 8GB for North America), but this should happen pretty soon too, although the 8GB version of N95 is already an almost perfect handset.
