Following yesterday's confirmation from Nokia that the N9 smartphone won't be released in the United States, the Finnish company made another statement, this time regarding the handset's launch in UK.

Although the phone has been spotted recently at Expansys UK and is now available for pre-order, it looks like Nokia does not have any plans to launch the N9 in the UK either.

In a recent statement for paidContent, Nokia says that it is aware of the positive reception that the smartphone received, but reaffirms that it has no plans to introduce the phone in UK.

Furthermore, the company states that its decision is based on the existing and upcoming products portfolio, which might weight heavily on the N9's or any of the future launched sales.

In other words, UK customers won't be able to purchase the N9, because Nokia plans to flood the market with Windows Phone 7 smartphones, which might not receive the same level of attention as the N9.

As an organisation Nokia takes a market by market approach to product rollout and each country decides which products to introduce from those available. These decisions are based on a local assessment of existing and upcoming products that make up Nokia’s product portfolio and are intended to provide the best local portfolio for the UK market. Although we are delighted with the very positive reception that the Nokia N9 has received, here in the UK there are no plans to offer the Nokia N9 at present.”

It appears that Nokia is determined to marginalize its MeeGo project and honor the partnership with Microsoft by favoring the upcoming WP7 devices.

By the look of it, the Finnish handset maker is now working to eliminate any 'distractions' that might weight heavily on WP7 sales, including the MeeGo and Symbian smartphones.
