Elements from N9 will live inside other Nokia devices

Nokia's first handset running under Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system, the Nokia Lumia 800, is based on the same design as the MeeGo-powered Nokia N9, and the latter is said to have played a critical role in the development of the former.

Nokia N9 benefits from limited availability around the world and is set to remain the only MeeGo-based smartphone from Nokia (provided that the company won't change its mind and deliver a new device, of course).

However, N9 was doomed to a short life even before being made available for purchase, although some of the elements that Nokia packed with it will live on.

According to Nokia's CEO, the handset is selling well, and some design elements from it will make it inside other devices from the company as well, since the main focus moving forth will be on the industrial design of devices.

In a recent interview with GigaOM, Stephen Elop also explained that N9 actually played a very important role on the development of Lumia 800.

“What you see in the Nokia Lumia 800 is a refined version of the N9 industrial design, with the manufacturing process evolved, with us having a better understanding of how to do it at a very large scale, all because of the N9,” Elop stated.

“The N9 has played a critical role in letting us get here with the Nokia Lumia 800,” he also mentioned.

However, Nokia remains committed to the direction it announced back in February, and will continue to focus on the delivery of new Windows Phones to the market, while leaving other platforms aside.

“We have to be very crisp on what operating platform we're using. We need to be very very focused to ensure success,” he stated.

As mentioned above, Elop also confirmed that there are elements from Nokia N9 that have been brought to other devices in the company's lineup, though not all of them have been detailed so far.

The Swipe experience on Nokia N9 is one of them and, although no specific details on it have been unveiled during the said interview either, we might expect it to make it one way or the other inside future smartphones from the company.
