McLaren is a Windows Phone project canceled this summer

Nokia McLaren is one of the projects that never got to see daylight after being killed in its very development stage, but since new information emerges really often, one could wonder whether Microsoft is indeed keeping this phone alive or not.

This time, a large collection of photos published on a Chinese forum show Nokia McLaren in a head-to-head comparison with iPhone 6, which is pretty much the most obvious sign that all photos are new and taken after September 2014, when Apple launched its new phone model.

Of course, nobody can tell if this is indeed an old prototype or a new version, but these photos are at least worth a look if you've ever wondered what could come up from a phone featuring 3D Touch navigation.

The device was reportedly in the works since late 2013, but the project was canceled in the summer of 2014 for no disclosed reason, with some people close to the matter suggesting that the new leadership of the company taking over the helm after the Microsoft acquisition decided to put it on hold indefinitely.

Nokia McLaren was expected to come with a new 3D Touch navigation system that would have allowed users to interact with the phone’s features without actually touching it, but information coming from within the company in late June - early July suggested that this feature wasn’t ready.

Now that new photos are available, they could be an indication that Microsoft might actually launch McLaren without the touch navigation, but you should obviously put this in the rumor box.

Back in mid-2014, sources said that McLaren was equipped with a 5-inch display and a 20-megapixel camera on the back, both of which were a sign that Microsoft might have planned to use this device as a new flagship in the 5-inch Windows Phone range.

At this point, Lumia 930 is the flagship 5 incher, but given the 3D Touch navigation, the Nokia McLaren would have launched a completely new phone category in Microsoft’s lineup.

The photos that got leaked today do not reveal much about the phone, as most aspects regarding its design were already known, but they do show a metallic body that seems to have the same shape as the Lumia 1520.

Obviously, nobody can tell for sure whether the McLaren has any chance of seeing daylight in the coming months, but there’s no doubt that such a device would perfectly fit Microsoft’s lineup of Windows Phone devices.
